I was visting Rome with a friend and we only had one and a half day to see the city. We wanted to do as much as possible without stressing around. After doing some research we decided to book a full day with LivItaly. Angelo who we talked to was very flexible and attentive about our desires and organized the program for us. My husband and I booked the Early Entrance tour of the Vatican and St. Peter's with Livitaly, and we were so glad we did!! It was just the 2 of us with our guide, and the early entrance meant we were in the Sistine Chapel with only about 25 people -- quite a different experience than a previous one, years ago, when we were in a shoulder-to-shoulder crowd!!

I was visiting Rome with my two children ages 8 and 11 for three days and realized on day one that I needed some help making the history accessible and interesting to them. I contacted Liveitaly on the second day and they were able to schedule a tour of the Vatican on very short notice. The woman who talked with me initially at the office took great care to get me all the information I needed with calls and emails and even met us before our tour to introduce us to our tour guide. Took the tour of the Vatican. Had added a car to pick us up from the hotel. The driver showed up earlier but had no issue coming back on allocated time expect he did not. After waiting 30 plus minutes he showed up on foot. Apparently the police pulled him over for some reason and he could not come back but asked the police to let him run up and give us the message and to ask our hotel to get us a cab. Which they did. We took the early opening tour for the sistine chapel and other vatican museums & the saint Peter. I tried to find information beforehand on the web about experiences from other people about this early tour ( since it is quite costly), but could not find any. We took the risk but is was absolutely great. We met up at 7.30 ( mind you, the bar you are meeting in front of is closed at that time so have breakfast before), and really were ahead of everyone else. Booked this tour based on the reviews on Tripadvisor and were not disappointed. We chose the Colosseum & Ancient Rome Tour and when we arrived to me the tour guide we were the only ones that day (so we basically had a private tour). John was a great guide and covered a lot of interesting information both about the Colosseum and how the ancient Romans built there city and lived. You know you have a great tour guide when other guides are telling you that “you are lucky to be one on one with John”. My two daughters (aged 23 and 19), my husband and I toured with John Penate. He was extremely knowledgeable and kept things interesting. We learned a great deal. My real concern when looking up companies was how they dealt with children. My husband and I traveled a lot with our little 1,5 year old, but we know it can be hard in large museums and long tours. When I found LivItaly and saw that they only had semi-private tours with just 6 people I contacted them immediately. I got an email a few hours later assuring me that children were well accepted on their tours. I had heard about this company through some friends, here back in Stockholm, who had taken their tours in the past. I was skeptical, I must say. I love last-minute traveling, wirld-wind type of thing. Ryanair, get there, grab a hotel room and just walk and take pictures, drink coffee and wine and I would have been done. But my friends insisted I'd look into it. I found their Vatican semi-Private tour. Seemed about right: if I have to take a tour, might as well do it in a place where I need help. We had Angelo was our tour guide throughout the Vatican and surrounding area, back in April of 2009. It was a wonderful experience then, and I know he has gotten even more knowledgable since then! We learned so much and had fun, he was very patient and accommodating for us to ask questions, take photos, and walk around a little bit on our own. We toured the Vatican museum and the Sistine Chapel with Livitaly. Our guide was Valentina Caroli and she was amazing. She was knowledgeable, patient, enthusiastic, and had tons of great stories to tell us. I felt like I was being given a tour by my loving aunt who lives in Rome; that is how delightful it was (That's also why I felt compelled to give her an American hug and a 20 euro tip!). My friends and I booked a semi-private tour of Vatican City. Valentina, our guide was excellent. Her knowledge was extensive and she shared it with us in a fun and interesting way. The combination of maps, facts and anecdotes made the 3 hours fly by. I'm not Catholic so had a limited knowledge of the Vatican and Catholic history but am now inspired to learn more about the art collections and the history of the Vatican.

We were visiting Rome to celebrate a friend's milestone birthday, and booked an early morning private tour of the Sistine Chapel and Vatican. Despite the very early start (we were picked up from our hotel at 7am), it was definitely worth it. The guide met us at the appointed meeting point (although you have to look around, as several tour groups gather in the same area), and took us across the road to join the queue to the Vatican Museum (for which we were right near the front, because of the early start). I had no idea what I was in for!! My husband surprised me with this excursion. Nonna Lina and Marie were so very nice. We had so much fun hanging out at Lina's home and learning how to make homemade pasta and biscotti. I look forward to trying the recipes again in my own home for my family. It was really nice to relax in a friendly home instead of a hotel or institution. She gave us the option of letting her show us how to make pasta and her doing all the work or letting us join in. After investigating several tour sites (interestingly mostly managed by Americans or Irish) we settled on one which seemed to be the most local. How right we were. We decided on two semi-private tours of Rome, the Vatican one and the Tour of Rome. Both our ITALIAN tour guides were fabulous: engaging, enthusiastic and interesting. We have been on many tours on previous holidays and LivItaly has been the best by a long way. Don't go anywhere else.
