Ever wondered what to do after dinner in Rome? Well, no need to worry! There’s still a lot to do and see in Rome after the sun goes down, and there’s no shortage of after dinner activities in the city. With everything that the Eternal City has to offer, you’ll never be bored during your time in Rome. Once dinner is over, a casual stroll and doing one or two of the following activities will keep you entertained while not being too taxing or stressful.
#1 See the Trevi Fountain lit up at night!
Typically this Rome attraction has over 5000 visitors a day, but if you visit the fountain in the evening hours you are more likely to find a free spot to throw your coin into the fountain.
#2 Eat a delicious gelato
La Romana is said to be the best in Rome, but any will do since they’re all so good! Typically after dinner, especially on a week night, Italians will take a walk (aka passeggiata) and if they are not too full from dinner, stop by a gelateria for a gelato!
#3 Walk through the streets in the Trastevere neighborhood
Trastevere is gorgeous any time you visit, but it transforms into a magical place after the sun goes down and when all of the fairy lights turn on.
#4 Visit the quiet Spanish Steps
While not as crowded as the Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps are still quite the tourist attraction, and going at night allows for less people and more picture-perfect photo opportunities – especially since the film Roman Holiday was filmed there!
#5 Grab a drink in Camp De’ Fiori neighborhood
Since the 1800s, this part of Rome has been used as a daily open-air market similar to a farmer’s market. At night, it turns into a hot spot with quite a home-y feel to it. Campo de’ Fiori is most definitely a nice place to sit down, have a drink, and relax after a long day of walking and sight-seeing.
#6 People watch in Piazza Navona
Although Piazza Navona – one of the more famous piazzas in Rome – isn’t nearly as crowded at night as it is during the day, it’s still a good place to relax, have a drink, and see how people go about experiencing everything that the piazza has to offer.
#7 Have a dessert at a rooftop bar
With most of the rooftop bars in Rome having a great view of the city, having dessert or drinks while watching the sunset or simply just taking in the amazing views of the city lit up at night is something that is a definite bucket-list item for your time in Rome.
#8 Walk across the Bridge of Angels to see Castel Sant’Angelo at night
While Castel Sant’Angelo and the Bridge of Angels can get quite crowded with both tourists and ticket sellers during the day, it’s beautiful to walk by and look at after the sun goes down.
#9 Visit St. Peter’s Square to see St Peter’s Basilcia lit up at night
Similar to Castel Sant’Angello, St. Peter’s Square and the Vatican clear out considerably after the sun sets; however, it’s still as breathtaking at night as it is during the day, and it’s well worth seeing after dinner is over.
