The Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore (Basilica of Saint Mary of the Flower) is the largest church in Florence, Italy.  It includes the famous Duomo (dome), which at the time it was built was the largest dome in the world.  To this day, it is still the largest brick dome ever constructed.  The dome is not only beautiful from both the inside and outside, but it also boasts the best view in the entire city.  A trip to Florence is not complete without climbing to the top of this famous structure.

The walk to the top of the dome is quite the endeavor.  Having 463 steps, it is sure to make you sweat.  But don’t let that scare you off; there are stops along the way where you can sit and rest.  And once you get to the top, you will be rewarded with a breathtaking view.
