After 55 years of creating music, The Rolling Stones continue to bring incredible live concerts to their audiences across the world. Their songs ranging from ‘Jumpin’ Jack Flash’ to ‘I Can’t Get No Satisfaction’ have made them one of the most influential and famous Rock and Roll bands in history! Since their first gig in 1962, The Stones, have performed more than 2000 concerts across the world and this year they are bringing their concert back to Italy! With the band’s new Blue & Lonesome album, released in December 2016, they are back for a new European tour!

Although there may have been some controversy surrounding their last concert in 2014 at Circus Maximus in Rome, the concert was a massive success! This year the Stones are back for another incredible tour – The No Filter Tour! The tour will bring Mick Jagger, Charlie Watts, Ronnie Wood and Keith Richards back together to bring the audience another great Italian Rolling Stones concert. Their European tour will start in Hamburg on September 9th and will end on the in Paris on the 22nd of October with a stop in a new Italian location, Lucca. For the first time, and the only Italian date, The Rolling Stones will perform live in Lucca on the 23rd of September at Mura di Lucca.

Rolling stones in Lucca Lucca, located on the foot of the Apuan Alps in the Northern Tuscan part of Italy, is renowned for its quaint tuscan charm. The small city of just 90,000 people remains one of the best preserved cities in Tuscany with pieces of ancient architecture scattered over the city. There are many great attractions in Lucca for you to visit from the traces of the Roman Amphitheater just off Via Fillungo to the 14th century cathedral, Duomo di San Martino. Another one of Luccas main historic attractions is their Renaissance walls – one of the most well maintained walls in Tuscany. The Rolling Stones concert will be a unique addition to the historic city of Lucca, bringing a modern concert to the traditional city. For the first time, hidden in the famous Renaissance city walls, the Rolling Stones concert arena will be located. The concert will span across 215 meters – nearly the size of two football fields – on the backdrop of the defensive walls from Santa Maria up to San Paolino and will hold up to 55 thousand enthusiastic fans.

How to get around Lucca

There are many ways to get around the city – either by walking, renting a bike or taking the bus. As the city is quite small it is very easy to walk around and take in all of the historic sites that it has to offer before going to the concert. Although the cobbled stoned city could be visited in one day, as the concert will start at 9pm, if you want to really appreciate the city then it is recommended that you stay overnight in Lucca as this will give you the chance to see the city and retreat back to your hotel after the concert.

How to get to the No Filter Concert:

  • Fly to Lucca
    The closest airport to the centre of Lucca is Pisa Galileo Galilei International Airport – which conveniently has a train station attached to it for you to easily take the train to the centre of Lucca.
  • By Train from Pisa or Florence:
    There are many ways to travel to Lucca but one of the easiest ways to get there from anywhere in Italy is to first take the train to Pisa central station or Florence train station. From either location you can take a short train journey of less than an hour to the centre of Lucca. Lucca train station is located just outside the old city walls, from here you can easily take public transport or a taxi ride to your hotel or the concert location itself.
  • By Bus from Pisa:
    If you’re looking to take the bus to Lucca from different locations in Italy then it is again recommended that you first travel to Pisa. From Pisa it is very easy to get the bus to Lucca. Every 30 minutes you can pick up the bus from Pisa P.Za Manin and take it to within the walls of Lucca to Piazzale Verdi.
  • By Car:
    As a tourist it is a little bit more difficult to get into the walls of Lucca where the concert will be held. Only residents are allowed to drive and park within the city walls, so if you drive to Lucca you must park your car outside of the walls and either rent a bike or take a taxi ride to the concert. There are two main car parks outside the walls of Lucca; Parcheggio Carducci and Porta Anna where you can drop your car off before the concert.
