LivTalks presents Daily Life in Venice – A City Built on Water Webinar with Francesca live from her home in Venice! This 45-minute webinar will give you a complete overview of what a normal day for a Venetian is like, and help you understand how very different daily life is in this city on water depending on where you live across the islands. Learn how Venice has always been a popular city for tourists, even over a millennial ago! Francesca will walk you through a typical day in this unique city from taking the vaporetto public transport, a ferry transit system, to walking around the islands along narrow passageways and across one of the 391 bridges in Venice! Learn about work life in Venice, and social life afterwards. What do Venetians do to wind down at the end of a workday? Many go for a spritz and cicchetti (typical Venetian snacks) at a nearby bar known as a bacaro.

Ever wonder where Venetians buy their groceries? Many Venetians buy their produce and fish at the Rialto market which has been serving Venetians local catch for the past 1000 years! Francesca will also explain how Venetian habits have changed over time and why. She will then virtually take you to some of her favorite spots through stories, and give you tips on where and what to visit to steer clear of tourist hot spots and live life a bit more locally.

Francesca will also dispel some of the more common and romanticized myths about Venice – no Venetians do not use gondolas as their main form of transport! And she will tell you some of the unique characteristics of Venetians such as – most don’t own a car, but instead many have their own motorboats. She will give you an idea of just how important boats are to the culture, with most of their major services dependent on the waterways, from ambulances, funerals, deliveries and more.
