The webinar will focus on the parallels of the early lives of the two, both having left home – Caesar taking his first step along the cursus honorum leaving Rome and becoming a general, and Jon who joins the Night’s Watch. Giulia will describe the circumstances that led to this and will describe Rome during the Age of the Republic.

She will also talk about the moment when there is a point of no return for both people. Both cross a border to which they can no longer easily go back. Giulia will historically contextualize this moment for Caesar with facts about the Roman law of Imperium and the reason he broke this law.
