Your Paris in a Day Tour begins with a tour of the Montmarte area of Paris, starting with a walk outside the legendary Moulin Rouge windmill. Built in 1889, the same year as Paris’ World Fair Expo, this famed eye-catching cabaret shares a birthyear with the Eiffel Tower and has become a symbol of Montmartre. Home to the risqué cancan dance, Le Moulin Rouge has been delighting visitors for over 130 years with its Vegas-like theatrics and sumptuous interior.
As you turn towards Montmartre’s cobblestone streets, you will soon notice the village-like ambiance of this distinct neighborhood. This is especially true as you see the shops along the Rue des Martyrs, which legend has it was the very street the first bishop of Paris was martyred. Your LivTours guide will also draw your attention to Montmartre’s historic vineyard landscape, and the centuries’ old history behind some of the winemakers in the area. See a 100-year-old winery which is known throughout France for its Harvesting Festival.
On your LivTours Montmartre Tour, you will have plenty of time to take pictures by the former homes of artists such as Van Gogh, Renoir and Picasso. You will also have the chance to stop by Montmartre’s oldest cabaret – Au Lapin Agile. Founded in 1860, Au Lapin Agile frequently hosted famous artists such as Edith Piaf and inspired paintings by the likes of Picasso and Utrillo. Thankfully Montmarte’s artistic spirit isn’t just in the past! Keep your eyes peeled for contemporary painters and musicians entertaining guests in the Amelie featured Place du Tertre.
It’s time to head up to Montmartre’s most famous church and enjoy unforgettable views of the Paris skyline.
LOUVRE
Your Paris in a Day tour guide will now take you to Paris’ Louvre Museum, which holds the largest and most influential collection in the world with over 35,000 works of art on display. Although it’s impossible to do the Louvre justice in just one day, LivTours’ Louvre Tour will grant you intimate access to all of the highlights. From marvelous Greek sculptures like Venus de Milo to dramatic Delacroix paintings, your guide will take you to all of the Louvre’s most inspiring masterpieces. One of the highlights of this Louvre Tour is the ability to spend a few moments directly in front of the world’s most famous portrait – Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa.
ILE DE LA CITE
Continue onto the breathtaking natural island in the middle of Paris – Île de la Cité. Take a peaceful walk over to Place Dauphine. If this square looks familiar to you, then you have probably seen Place Dauphine before in a few major motion pictures like Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris. Though this square may be familiar for its more modern accomplishments, it holds an impenetrable place in history as well. Your guide will point out the very spot where King Louis IX, now venerated as a saint, once would come to pray close to a 1000 years ago.
As you make your way along the island, your LivTours guide will explain the long history of this natural island in the center of Paris, you will hear a few of the darker tales of Paris’ past as you walk by the notorious Conciergerie. Your guide will transport you back to the bloody days of the French Revolution, where you will get an idea of Marie Antoinette’s last days before meeting her fate under the guillotine.
As you make your way to your River Seine cruise, your tour guide will take you to one of the most beloved spots of Paris, the Medieval masterpiece known as the Notre Dame Cathedral. Notre Dame is temporarily closed to the public, but you can still learn about this architectural wonder and admire it from afar. Learn about Notre Dame’s intricate frame design, and the current efforts in rebuilding it. In addition to learning more about Notre Dame’s past, your guide will fill you in on future renovations at France’s famed cathedral so you know exactly when to plan your next trip to Paris!

The Seine River Cruise portion of your tour can be taken at any time you desire. This relaxing sightseeing journey is the perfect way to unwind and enjoy the beauty of Paris. Boats are equipped with a bar, so you can opt for a drink or other snacks (not included in the tour).
Some of the picturesque spots you will get to see are the Conciergerie which you just walked by; the Académie Française which is home to the French council governing body of the French language; the Musée d’Orsay, a once railways station which now holds the largest collection of Impressionist Art in the world; the Hôtel National des Invalides, a still active 17th century hospital and hospice for injured and disabled war veterans and of course the symbol of France you came to see – the Eiffel Tower.
