LivItaly’s Private Vatican Breakfast Tour will begin with VIP direct access into the Vatican Museums before opening to the general public, a service reserved only for Vatican Silver Level Collaborators. Once inside, your expert tour guide will accompany you to the Pinecone Courtyard, named after the 4-meter high bronze pine statue which once stood beside Ancient Rome’s Pantheon. The Vatican Museums see anywhere from upwards of 20,000 visitors a day, all eventually walking through this very courtyard, but LivItaly’s VIP access will give you a bit of down time before the rush of the crowds so you can enjoy your papal breakfast and get prepped for your museum tour. Your Private Vatican Breakfast Tour begins with a meet and greet from your tour guide, direct access to the museums and a quick security check. You and your guide will make your way over to the Pincecone courtyard where you will be seated for a delicious morning buffet breakfast. Order a cappuccino, espresso or enjoy a cup of filter coffee and then have your pick at the hearty selection of farm-fresh dairy products. You will be pleased to know that the dairy – eggs, milk and even yogurts come directly from the papal livestock! Yes, these items are produced on papal estate farms and the products are exclusive to Vatican City and cannot be found outside of the Vatican walls. A very special breakfast indeed!

WHAT’S FOR BREAKFAST?
Breakfast consists of scrambled eggs, boiled eggs, sausages, bacon, pancakes, a selection of fresh breads, fresh fruits, yogurts, cereal, juices and plenty more. Have as many helpings as you like, as you get to know your tour guide and learn about what is yet to come on your Vatican tour. This is truly a breakfast you won’t soon forget.

Once you are all done with breakfast, your guide will take you on a comprehensive tour of the rest of the Vatican Museums. Your tour will include all of the Vatican highlights and a few added extras. Walk past the celebrated 15th century statue of the Belvedere Torso, a piece considered so perfect in its form that numerous artists have used it as inspiration, including Michelangelo. See the Laocoön statue which tells the tragic story of the city of Troy, and the many other masterpieces which make up the Courtyard of Statues. As you make your way past other Vatican treasures such as Emperor Nero’s lavish porphyry bath once housed in the Golden Palace, your LivItaly guide will guide you to even more amazing galleries such as the Gallery of the Candelabra, Gallery of Tapestries and the renowned Gallery of Maps – a Renaissance version of Google Maps.

No Vatican Tour is complete without a visit to the Raphael Rooms which belonged to the papal apartments of Pope Julius II, the very Pope which commissioned Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel. Admire the majesty of these newly cleaned Raphael frescoes whose complex composition embodies all the elements of the High Renaissance, a revival of classical antiquity.

Once finished in the Raphael Rooms, your guide will take you through to the fresco which took Michelangelo 4 years to finish – leaving God for last – the Sistine Chapel. This once private chapel is just close to the size of a standard basketball court, but can very easily fill with curious travelers who have come to see one of the most majestic works of this period. Learn how Michelangelo’s passion for sculpture heavily influenced his painting, creating a new 3-dimensional style of depicting the human form on canvas, or in this case, fresco. There is no speaking in the Sistine Chapel as it is a sacred place, so your guide will give you all the necessary information to enjoy the chapel viewing beforehand. This way you can simply look up, take it all in and enjoy.

ST PETER’S BASILICA
You and your tour guide will then make your way to the largest church in the world – Saint Peter’s Basilica. Admire one of the most important Christian landmarks in the world, the burial site of one of Jesus’ apostles and the keeper of the keys to heaven – Saint Peter. Your guide will show you glorious works of art such as Michelangelo’s sculpture of the Pietà and Bernini’s Baldacchino Altar made of solid bronze. Before you leave St. Peter’s Basilica, your guide will tell you about the Papal Tombs, the Memorial of Pope Alexander VII, and tell you how to climb up to the top of the Dome if you choose to do so on your own. Conclude your Vatican tour by walking around Bernini’s celebrated Piazza San Pietro Square.

St. Peter’s Basilica is an active church and can be closed unexpectedly for liturgical ceremonies. If closed, the time inside the Vatican Museums will be extended.
