Tivoli Day Trip from Rome is a full day experience that begins and ends in Rome, taking you on a round-trip through the Italian countryside and up to Tivoli. Your journey back in time begins with the visit to the fascinating ruins of Emperor Hadrian’s villa, built in the early 2nd century as a retreat from Rome for the Emperor. A gigantic complex with underground service passages big enough for vehicles (tantalising glimpses are still visible), the Villa incorporates lakes, fountains, libraries, baths, temples and gardens. The area covered is staggering, and highly confusing even when armed with a map; it’s easy to imagine the emperor himself asking for directions.

Before moving to visit the Villa D’Este, you can grab a lunch up at the charming little town of Tivoli, your guide will recommend somewhere that suits your taste (not included in the price of the tour).

The tour then moves onto the magnificent 16^th Century Villa d’Este, famous for its terraced hillside Italian Renaissance gardens with lavishly frescoed reception rooms and a profusion of fountains. Designed by Pirro Ligorio, to impress the Cardinal Ippolito d’Este’s guests, the Villa d’Este gardens are composed almost exclusively of water features. of every description dazzle the onlooker, from the grand ‘Fountain of the Dragons’ and ‘Hundred Fountains’, to a miniature watery reproduction of Rome. The centrepiece, the gigantic Water Organ Fountain, cascades down a huge drop into quiet, shady pools.

Please bear in mind though that in order to accommodate traveling families and friends, we do on rare occasion make the exception of adding an additional one to two guests in order not to split groups who are traveling together. On that same note, you may find yourself on tour with less than six people. As we accept bookings in multiples of six, math doesn’t always work in our favor to help accommodate individual travelers and their families when on the same tour, so we hope you understand and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
