Traveling with kids can be difficult, and holding their attention for a full museum tour can sometimes be a feat. You are in good hands with LivItaly, a Vatican Silver Level Collaborator! We have designed this tour specifically to get kids excited about learning! All the little ones will be provided with original LivItaly treasure maps to entertain and quiz them along the way. The best way to teach children is to involve them, and that’s just what our tours do! We offer fun and engaging ways to learn about some of the world’s most famous sculptures, paintings and artists that fill the unique hallways of the Vatican!

ABOUT YOUR VATICAN TREASURE HUNT – FAMILY TOUR

We know how important timing is when it comes to touring with children, which is why LivItaly wants to optimize your time as best possible, so the little ones never have a chance to get bored! Your Vatican Treasure Hunt will begin with skip-the-line access to the museum, so you and your family can begin your adventure without the hassle of having to wait on long lines. Your expert tour guide will begin by getting to know the little ones to understand what interests them. Kids will get their maps and the games will begin!

Vatican Museums can get quite crowded, so along with all the major must-see highlights, we feature child-friendly Vatican rooms so kids have the time and space to be curious and ask questions. Marvel at the tricky Momo’s Staircase and match the clues on your LivItaly treasure map. Did you know the museums have a collection of cars and carriages that few people get to see? Your kids will love seeing the gold horse carriages and vintage cars that popes have used throughout history! The whole family will continue on the family-friendly itinerary following the treasure map full of questions, clues and of course treasures! As the children gather clues, your guide will take the opportunity to tell you stories of what it is like to live as the pope in Vatican City, what it was like to be an artist during Michelangelo’s times and how some of the world’s masterpieces came to be!

Some of the sites you will visit on this tour include the outdoor Pinecone Courtyard, Octagonal Courtyard, Gallery of the Maps and Michelangelo’s masterpiece – the Sistine Chapel. There have been plenty of interpretations of Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel and plenty of stories which have been passed down over the centuries. LivItaly wants to continue passing down these stories to the next generation of art lovers. We are using fun to do it! Look up at the famous ceiling and spot the five errors on the treasure hunt map!

FINISH AT THE WORLD’S LARGEST CHURCH

Your tour is not over yet! Your tour guide will accompany you out of the Sistine Chapel with privileged, direct access into St. Peter’s Basilica where you will get to visit the largest church in the world. You will get to see Bernini’s Baldachino, an altar made from the melted bronze of the Pantheon; the Pieta, another divine Michelangelo masterpiece; the Holy Door, the door which absolves sin during the Jubilee and hear even more stories of this majestic church.

At the end of your Vatican Treasure Hunt Tour, your guide will check to see that all treasure hunt questions have been answered and prizes will be awarded accordingly to each child!

UPGRADE & ADD A CHILD-FRIENDLY MOSAIC WORKSHOP OR FRESCO WORKSHOP
Now that the little ones have learned all about the wonders of the Vatican Museums artwork, you will want to take the experience one step further and have them create their very own masterpieces! Upgrade your tour with a choice of either a Mosaic Workshop or a Fresco Workshop where you and your children can learn the techniques of great Italian masters and have a hand at creating a fresco or a mosaic of your very own. Your LivItaly guide will walk you over to an ART LABS on Via dei Coronari, just a 15 minute walk from the Vatican Museums, where your workshop teacher awaits you and your children.

The Fresco Workshop guides you through the fresco-making process, so you can get an idea of how Renaissance painters such as Michelangelo and Raphael painted the most prestigious rooms in the Vatican which you will have seen on your Treasure Hunt Tour. An expert art teacher will walk you through the fresco process from preparation, outline and color mixing and each participant will leave with their very own masterpiece and hands on experience of an historic painting technique.

The Mosaic Workshop will take you even further back in time, teaching guests a craft that dates back to thousands of years ago. Your art teacher will help you choose an appropriate mosaic design based on the artist’s ages, so everyone can create and have fun at their own pace. Kids absolutely love the creative process behind this “jigsaw-like” craft and everyone gets to take their artwork home to show off to their friends!

*St. Peter’s Basilica is an active church and can be closed unexpectedly for liturgical ceremonies. If closed, the time inside the Vatican Museums will be extended.
