Your Venice tour commences from Campo San Giacometto, a small square just a few steps from the famous Ponte Rialto and the Gran Canal. The Church of the campo is known to be the most antique Church of Venice built in 421 A.C. by a carpenter, who had intended to devote himself to San Giacomo, to save the city from a deadly fire. The neighborhood is a bustling shopping quarter where the locals buy their fresh vegetables and fish from the daily market located on the side of the Grand Canal.

We continue by foot and around the corner we reach Ponte Rialto. Admire the unique architecture and soak in the stories of this grand and imposing bridge. You will also have the chance to take romantic pictures of the breathtaking view. Taking its name from the near-by market, the bridge was initially built in 1250 completely in wood. The peculiar shape allows for the passing of tall boats. This is especially necessary next to the market for cargo boats to bring in the daily produce, meats and cheeses.

Your Venice private tour continues with a stop to admire the small Church of San Giovanni Crisostomo. Marvel at its beautiful altar built by the Renaissance artist Giovanni Bellini. Not many people know that Venice was also a center of Renaissance art, which played an important role in the city’s history.

The General Bartolomeo Colleoni contributed a lot to the expansion of Venice in its golden years of the 15th century, and in his honor the artist Verricchio made a sculptor of him on his horse on Campo Santi Giovanni e Paolo where we will pass and get to know more about this important era. We proceed through the maze of Venice’s small alleyways before we reach probably one of Venice’s most fascinating squares: Campo Santa Maria Formosa. Here, you will admire eleven bridges and at least 7 architectural Venetian masterpieces. Among these is Palazzo Querini Stampalia, house of the glorious Querini family and now home to the Querini Museum.

Finally, we arrive in the breathtaking St. Mark’s Square. Admire the exterior of the Doge’s Palace and get ready to enter St. Mark’s Basilica. Your Venice private tour would not be complete without entering this magnificent church. Make sure you look up, down, and around at the sparkling gold mosaics, imposing bronze horse statues and marble-laden floors.
