The focus will be on Italy’s place in the war, when it joined the Axis side and became allied forces of Nazi Germany in 1940. Matteo will give you an idea of the years at war under the Fascist party of Benito Mussolini which had ruled since 1922.

Learn about life in Italy under this very cruel dictator supported by the weak Italian King Vittorio Emanuele, who played a key role in the persecution policy that Fascists and Nazis used against a large portion of their people. Hear the tragic stories of the final phase of the war on the Jewish community of Italy, as well as homosexuals, gypsies and more who were deprived of their human rights, persecuted and moved to Nazi death camps located in Poland, Germany and Austria. Matteo will take you on a journey into some of Italy’s most shocking moments and the spirit and will of its people, and the civic responsibility which gave them hope for the future.

Matteo will take you to the end of World War II, when Partisans and Allied forces were able to defeat the Fascists and the Nazis and finally set Italy free to create a new government which transformed the country from a Monarchy into a Republic. Learn about what happened after the Armistice of Cassibile on September 8, 1943 when Italy surrendered to the Allied forces.
