There is no doubt that the majority of the most successful style icons were born almost by accident or at least with very few pretensions, and the Vespa is no exception. Born as a temporary gimmick, the Vespa (wich means wasp in English) quickly became a global success that changed the lifestyle of millions of people, conquering celebrities and film sets from the 1950s to the present day.

The Vespa is a timeless icon that has gone through the history of Italy and still represents the best of Made in Italy. Practical, handy, comfortable, light and spacious, a sort of status symbol for VNP very normal people, the Vespa symbolized the real revolution also from a social point of view. At the end of the fifties, the VESPA became an important “means for family transport”. The wife sits sideways in the seat, the children in between mom and dad. The carrier than also arrived, and you went quietly in three, maybe with shopping bags between the legs. Really a practical and comfortable solution to get around the city. Accessible to all because of the competitive price and very easy to drive for everybody.

The Vespa is therefore the scooter that no one else could have designed and in no other country could it have been born. It is the work of the creative mind of Corradino Ascanio, a great Italian engineer. The origin of the name “Vespa”, which later became famous on a planetary level, remains uncertain. According to the most famous version, it was born from an exclamation of one of the two producers brothers, Enrico Piaggio, who at the sight of the prototype exclaimed: “it looks like a wasp!”, because of the sound of the engine and the shape wich is “narrower in the middle of the Vespa body” VESPA WAS and is nowadays the favorite on set and the most loved in real life also by celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow Julia Roberts, Anthony Perkins, Anne Hathaway and Tom Hanks, Ana Ortiz, Owen Wilson. All lovers of good cinema have seen a wonderful movie shot in Rome, “the sweet life” where Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck enjoyed touring the eternal city on their Vespa.
