HERCULANEUM, PRESERVED BY THE HAND THAT RUINED IT
Just a short 5 miles southeast of Naples lies an ancient town which is known by archaeologists, locals and history lovers, a town whose richness and history is on par with that of Pompeii, the town is Herculaneum. Your guide will accompany you on a quick ride to the this site to begin the second half of your adventure.

The town of Herculaneum is often noted as a “better preserved” Pompeii as the volcanic material which covered it helped preserve not only the framework of the homes and buildings, but also the more delicate materials such as wood and other natural substances. This makes for an archaeologist and tourist’s dream! You get to see the very beds and even food remnants left behind from that deadly day. There is no closer look into history than a walk around Herculaneum. Depending on the route for the day, some of the attractions you will see in Herculaneum include the House of Galba, the Thermal Baths and wonderful mosaic floors, the Samnite House and plenty more.

To this day these two spectacular towns are still being excavated and international archaeologists are digging deeper into the story of that infamous day. A visit to Pompeii and Herculaneum reveals to us what these two Roman provinces meant for the ancient Roman world. This is a great tour to get an idea of what ancient life was like!

ADD ON: WINE TASTING & LUNCH AT A LOCAL VINEYARD
Don’t want your tour to end? Add on a Wine Tasting at a nearby Pompeii Vineyard.

Travelers who want to see a bit more of the Pompeii surrounding area can opt for a few more hours of touring to a nearby family-run vineyard along the Vesuvian hills. Your guide will leave you with your private chauffeur who will take you to a nearby local vineyard, rooted in tradition, producing exceptional wines which somehow seem to capture the aromas of southern Italy in a glass. The vineyard you will be visiting was born of a hobby of the nonno (grandfather) of a local Italian family, which was later passed on and revived by his grandchildren, young entrepreneurs who today run the establishment, turning their grandfather’s dream into reality.

You will be met with an onsite tour explaining the bio-dynamic techniques used in production, as well as some of the ancient techniques used to mirror production methods of ancient roman times (i.e. amphora containers). Get a glimpse of the wine cellar, groves and even an excavation site right on the territory – this is Pompeii after all!

No vineyard tour would be complete without a wine tasting. You and your group will get to taste 3 local wines followed by a delicious light meal which includes a starter, first course and a dessert. You are sure to enjoy the stories, landscape and of course wine of this vineyard that has been in the family for three generations.

Once your tour, wine tasting and lunch is done, your private chauffeur will take you back to the entrance of the Pompeii excavation site from which you started.
