LivTalks presents Behind the Legendary Life & Career of Coco Chanel with Andreas live from his home in Paris! This 45-minute webinar will focus on one of the most legendary women in fashion – Coco Chanel, her life, character and career. Andreas will take you on a journey of the unconventional personality and revolutionary sartorial approach that characterized Chanel, as well as through key moments of her life, and their influence on her extraordinary career. Andreas will give you a look at Coco Chanel like never before – beyond the fashion and her role in design history. You will leave this discussion understanding how this one woman acted as a pioneer to women’s emancipation through her life work.

Learn how Gabriel became “Coco” and the early years, and her first steps towards freedom with the support of some generous male companions. Get an idea of how her successful millinery business came to be with her first boutique at Deauville, and the struggles and inspiration which emerged during the First World War, and the development of the iconic House of Chanel. Andreas will also give you an idea of what fashion was like at the time, and the factors that led to the transformation of a “couturière” to an understated socialite, surrounded by aristocrats, artists and businessmen. Then there was the launch of two of the most famous products known to modern fashion and beauty – Chanel N° 5 and the partnership with the Wertheimer family, along with the “little black dress” and the elaboration of a style.

The talk will also focus on World War II and the ambivalent attitude of this tough businesswoman through the Occupation. Andreas will address the rumors of Chanel’s “affinities” with the Germans and her post-war comeback in 1954 with the significant evolution of the fashion industry and the sartorial propositions of Mademoiselle that consolidated her status and prestige.

No talk about Coco Chanel would be complete without understanding how to identify her signature styles from the 2.55 handbag to the Massaro two-tone shoes, and of course the famous Chanel “tailleur” two piece suit.
