These are two areas which very few tourists get to see due to extreme ticket limitation. Your Colosseum Underground and Ancient Rome Tour begins just in front of the Colosseum. Meet up with your LivItaly tour guide, go past the long lines, through a quick security check and straight into the most iconic amphitheater on earth, a site which has inspired countless tales.

Once inside the Colosseum, your assigned custodian will open special gates exclusively for you, your guide and a few other lucky souls, to visit areas of the Colosseum that are otherwise closed to the public. You will first be directed to the entrance of the Colosseum arena with your tour guide immediately introducing you to the wonders of the Ancient Roman games. Walk through the archway and walk onto the light yellow colored arena, where you will get a feel for what it was like to hear the roar of 70,000 spectators chanting your name.

You will descend into the Colosseum dungeons, learn about the complex labyrinth that lived under the arena floor, filled with cages, mechanical elevators, rooms and prisons. Here is where the gory tales you only read about come to life.

Once you have finished your tour inside the Colosseum, your guide will lead you to another Roman icon – the Palatine Hill. Non-Refundable Entrance Fees: Due to recent ticket policy changes imposed by the Colosseum, this tour cost is fully refundable minus the skip-the-line Colosseum entrance fees. Cancellations or modifications will exclude these entrance fees.

PLEASE NOTE: * The above itinerary is an example, the order of the sites might change depending on the scheduled slot for the Colosseum Underground and Arena floor.

*Guests with wheelchair accessibility needs will find difficulty with this small group tour. In order to ensure a tour with alternative routes, please inquire with our customer support team and we will find you a barrier-free tour.
*ALL participants are required to bring a valid form of id (passport, driver’s license, government id) in order to enter restricted areas of the Colosseum. Photocopies are acceptable.

RECENT CHANGES TO UNDERGROUND PORTION: Due to recent changes in Colosseum ticketing regulations affecting all guides and all tour operators, there is a chance that the Colosseum will not allow guides to accompany their groups for the short 20 minute portion of the underground. In this circumstance, your guide will share all the historical insights prior to your entering and a member of the Colosseum staff will join you for this portion of the tour. This change is affecting all guides and all tour operators. LivItaly Tours LLC (aka LivTours) offers no reimbursement in the event that a guide is unable to accompany their group to the underground.

If you would like, you can install the Parco Colosseum official app on your phone and download the Colosseum Experience audio recordings prior to arriving.

SAFETY NOTE ABOUT UNDERGROUND AND ARENA: The access to the restricted areas of the Colosseum (Underground and Arena) may be shared among other participants in the LivItaly exclusive entry slot. At times, for safety reasons, logistics and traffic control, the group may be led by one guide. This choice is at the complete discretion of the Colosseum’s administration and security policy of that day in accordance to adequate safety measures. Please be aware that this is only for 30/40 minutes of the total duration of the tour. Our max 6 people policy is guaranteed for the remainder of the duration of the tour.

WEATHER CONDITIONS: In extreme weather conditions, parts of the restricted areas may be closed for safety reasons by the Colosseum administration. LivItaly’s tour will always run, and itinerary will adjust accordingly to the weather therefore no refunds will be granted for reasons out of LivItaly’s control.

GENERAL ENTRY: Please note that for safety reasons the Colosseum can accommodate up to 3.000 people at once. This could lead to delays in access to the site, even for pre-booked visitors. Please be on time!

ABOUT OUR 6 PEOPLE SMALL GROUP POLICY
When you book a LivItaly Small Group Tour, you are guaranteed one tour guide per group of 6 people. Please bear in mind though that in order to accommodate traveling families and friends, we do on rare occasion make the exception of adding an additional one to two guests in order not to split groups who are traveling together. On that same note, you may find yourself on tour with less than six people. As we accept bookings in multiples of six, math doesn’t always work in our favor to help accommodate individual travelers and their families when on the same tour, so we hope you understand and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
