ABOUT YOUR FLORENCE IN A DAY SMALL GROUP TOUR
Your Florence small group tour will start with a meet and greet with your guide and fellow travelers at Piazza della Signoria, an L-shaped square in the heart of this art city, surrounded by some of the most important buildings of Florence. Admire centuries of architecture and history in just one square which includes buildings such as Palazzo Vecchio, the town hall of the city, Uffizi Gallery, one of the most important art collections in the world, and Palazzo Uguccioni, whose building facade was designed by the great Raphael. This is one of the most important squares in the city – what better way is there to start a tour!

UFFIZI GALLERY
Your first art stop is the Uffizi Gallery – the former offices of one of the most powerful families of Italy, the Medici Family. This once private art collection which consisted of master works by Michelaneglo, Raphael, Botticelli, Leonardo da Vinci, Caravaggio and many more who adorned the walls of the Medici Family corridors. It later became open to the public in 1765 and was officially turned into a museum in 1865 for everyone to enjoy one of the most renowned art collections in the entire world with over museums 2 million visitors per year.

See master works such as the Birth of Venus, one of the most famous depictions of the mythological goddess emerging from the sea on a shell – a now icon of Italian Renaissance. You will also see Michelangelo’s Doni Tondo, a Holy Family portrait with the Virgin Mary in the forefront, a commission from a prominent Tuscan family. The amount of breathtaking masterpieces is endless, and your LivItaly guide will be discerning enough to tour you through the most important of this art collection.

LUNCH BREAK
After marveling at centuries of artwork, you will have worked up an appetite. Your LivItaly guide will give you suggestions for some local restaurants according to your food preferences. You will have a break for lunch so you can unwind and enjoy some Tuscan classics. There are plenty more stops to come so it is best to refuel. You may already know that Tuscany is famous for its wines such as Chianti Classico and Brunello di Montalcino, but did you know that it is also renowned for its cuisine. The beauty of Italian cuisine is that no two cities have the same cuisine, as dishes are usually made of regional products making each culinary experience fresh, local and unique. Have your guide recommend a dish to order or try some of the classics such as affettati misti (sliced cured meats) with cheese, a dish of pasta or if you are craving something a bit more substantial – the famous bisteca alla Fiorentina (T-bone steak). And of course top your meal off with a bit of wine! Lunch is not included in this tour.

A WALK AROUND THE CITY
After a delicious Tuscan meal, it is time to continue your Florence in a Day Tour, and some of the best is yet to come. The next portion of your tour consists of a walk around this gorgeous city where you will be able to fully understand the many layers of architecture which makes this city of only 400,000 inhabitants, one of the most spectacular and culturally rich in the world. You and your group will walk around the beautiful art city of Florence so you can get an idea of the size and scope of this beautiful city as you admire the melting pot of architecture from Gothic, Romanesque and Renaissance.

Admire the Ponte Vecchio Bridge, the oldest bridge in Florence which overlooks the Arno River and the only bridge which survived Nazi bombings during WWII. The colorful cityscape it offers the city only adds to its innate charm. You will also get to see Fillipo

Brunelleschi’s Dome from the outside – the largest duomo in Italy and learn how the architect’s rival Lorenzo Ghiberti was seething when he lost the bid to complete the dome himself. Marvel at the dome that perfectly frames Florence and all the many pictures taken of this picturesque city. Learn about the famous Baptistry bronze doors and the history and legends they have left as behind.

MICHELANGELO’S DAVID
Your final stop will be one worth having waited for – a trip inside the Galleria dell’Accademia which houses the magnificent 17-foot marble sculpture of David by Michelangelo. Sculpted between 1501 and 1504, when Michelangelo was only 29 years old, the David statue has transcended both time and culture to become one of the world’s most recognized and admired pieces of art. It was originally created to embody the David from the Bible’s first book of Samuel, but today, anyone and everyone appreciates the miraculous ode to the human body, a craft that Michelangelo was known for.

ADD THE DUOMO OR BELL TOWER CLIMB AND TICKETS TO THE MUSEO DEL DUOMO
Add the possibility of climbing the Duomo of Florence 30 minutes after the tour is over. By adding the optional add-on, we will provide you with skip-the-line timed tickets to climb the Duomo after the tour is over. In case the Duomo is sold out, you will be able to climb the magnificent bell tower of the Church. In addition, the tickets also include access to the Museo del Duomo. Please bare in mind that these are subject to availability and that we will need full name and dates of birth of all participants in order to secure your climbs.

ABOUT OUR 6 PEOPLE SMALL GROUP POLICY
When you book a LivItaly Small Group Tour, you are guaranteed one tour guide per group of 6 people. Please bear in mind though that in order to accommodate traveling families and friends, we do on rare occasion make the exception of adding an additional one to two guests in order not to split groups who are traveling together. On that same note, you may find yourself on tour with less than six people. As we accept bookings in multiples of six, math doesn’t always work in our favor to help accommodate individual travelers and their families when on the same tour, so we hope you understand and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
