Our Pompeii & Vesuvius all-inclusive shore excursion is a fun experience for the whole family! You will be accompanied by a private driver and a private tour guide for the full day.

The day starts directly at your cruise ship in Naples where your private driver will pick you up with a comfortable air conditioned car that will bring you to the Pompeii excavation sites.

Pompeii is one of the best preserved ancient Roman cities in the world and maybe the most interesting one. On our Pompeii Shore Excursion you will learn the fascinating history of this ancient port town. When the volcano, Vesuvius, had an eruption in 79 AD, Pompeii and the nearby cities were buried under layers of lava and ashes. The city was not uncovered until 1500 years later and it is being excavated still to this day. Pompeii gives us a unique and detailed picture about ancient Romans’ daily life and you will be impressed about how modern the cities actually were considering the time. Walk on the original cobble stone streets and look inside their homes. Pompeii has numerous interesting stories to tell us and your private tour guide will share them with you.

Before we start our hike to the top of the volcano that caused the disaster, we will make time for a lunch break in a local restaurant (not included in the price).

With the private car you will reach almost the top of the Vesuvius, as the last part of the trail is only accessible by foot. Your driver will leave you on the tourist walking path where you can choose to continue the trail on your own or wait for the local Alpine guide who will accompany you along the trail with a group of fellow travelers. In either case, get ready to look right into the eye of one of the most talked about active volcanoes in the world – Mt Vesuvius. Look around at the unbeatable views of the entire Bay of Naples. The hike is not tough and is therefore suitable for most children and adults.

Once you are back at the car your private driver will take you back to the cruise ship. When you are sailing off you will see the top of Vesuvius for miles and know that you cherish the memories of this adventurous day!

ADD ON: WINE TASTING & LUNCH AT A LOCAL VINEYARD
Don’t want your tour to end? Add on a Wine Tasting at a nearby Pompeii Vineyard.

Travelers who want to see a bit more of the Pompeii surrounding area can opt for a few more hours of touring to a nearby family-run vineyard along the Vesuvian hills. Visit a nearby local vineyard, rooted in tradition, producing exceptional wines which somehow seem to capture the aromas of southern Italy in a glass. The vineyard you will be visiting was born of a hobby of the nonno (grandfather) of a local Italian family, which was later passed on and revived by his grandchildren, young entrepreneurs who today run the establishment, turning their grandfather’s dream into reality.

You will be met with an onsite tour explaining the bio-dynamic techniques used in production, as well as some of the ancient techniques used to mirror production methods of ancient roman times (i.e. amphora containers). Get a glimpse of the wine cellar, groves and even an excavation site right on the territory – this is Pompeii after all!

No vineyard tour would be complete without a wine tasting. You and your group will get to taste 3 local wines followed by a delicious light meal which includes a starter, first course and a dessert. You are sure to enjoy the stories, landscape and of course wine of this vineyard that has been in the family for three generations.

This is the perfect way to end your day in Pompeii, Italian style with a bit of wine, food, history and good company.
