Tour companies promises to “Skip the Line” at the Colosseum, but what does that mean? Let me tell you. Regardless if you have booked a tour in advance, decided to visit the Colosseum on your own, or to hop on a last-minute tour, you will come across the option to “Skip the Line”.

Colosseum Skip the Line

To “Skip the Line” does not mean: “walk straight into the Colosseum”, which one might think. We all wish it would be that easy but unfortunately it isn’t. Starting a couple of weeks ago, the Colosseum has established a security check for everyone entering the arena. This means canning your bag and walking through a metal detector, similar to the security checks at the airports.

Now, “Skip the Line” does not mean it is possible to skip the line to the security check. Colosseum Skip the Line means: to skip the ever so long queue for to buy tickets. This line is not visible from the outside but hides inside, past the security check.

The image here is taken just past the security check. Now, the queue to the right is the line to get tickets, while the others “Skip the Line” and walk straight into the Colosseum.

Tours including Skip the Line

When a tour company offers a tour including the privilege to “Skip the Line at the Colosseum”, than this means that beyond the security point there will be no lines. Once you have past the metal detectors, which as stated, EVERYONE has to go through, you will go ahead and walk straight into the Colosseum.

If you however skip to get the option to Skip the Line, then you will have to stand in another line, inside the Colosseum, to the ticket office…

…and queue…

…until you get to the ticket desk.

Not Skip the Line

The problem is that from the outside it looks as if the offer to Skip the Line doesn’t matter, but once you get through the security point you will be grateful that you chose to Skip the Line at the Colosseum.
