If you are visiting Rome this weekend, do not be surprised if you find stores and sights closed. The 29th of June is an annual holiday in Rome when the Catholic saints Peter and Paul are honed for their martyrdom. The date was chosen either for being the anniversary of their death or of the translation of their relics. The Catholic Church is celebration the day with religious rituals; There is a Papal mass in the Vatican and you can come and see the “floral carpets” on the Piazza Pio XII in front of St. Peter’s Square.

At night time Rome will entertain you with an astonishing show of fireworks at Castel Sant’Angelo from 9.30 pm. Enjoy!

Here they are, Peter and Paul, depicted by El Greco in the 1700s. And the 29th of June is the day when Rome celebrates their martyrdom. It is peculiarity big because Peter and Paul are the patrons saints of the Eternal City.
