Coming to a city you never been to before you might have a difficulty to figure out how to orient around the city. Rome is even more difficult than other places because regardless of how well traveled you are you can’t apply your previous experiences since there is no other place like Rome. Trying to get from one place to another might be more complicated than you think. Walking straight might leave you turning even if that was never your intention. This is because the streets of Rome are straight (your eyes and senses are not fooling you) but the Tiber river is turning. While walking next to the river does not seem to be that winding but looking at a map you see that the Tiber is located like a serpentine cutting through the city plan. These two realities make orienting a bit challenging.Rome Taxi Stands

How to order a Taxi in Rome

You can of course call for a taxi in Rome but there is no guarantee that the call center speaks English, however, if you still want to try, then call 06 06 09.
There is another way which is requesting a taxi via SMS. Your write the city then add a comma and then the street. For example: Roma, Via dei Panieri 10  and you then send this text to number 366 6730 000

Another way to order  a taxi in Rome is by downloading the app MyTaxi which will allow you to see the taxi’s closest to you. This will allow you to simply type in your location and the taxi closest to you will come to your location. There is also an option on the app to request your taxi to come and pick you up at a specific time which will allow you to pre book your taxi in Rome.

Top tip:

Lastly, don’t ever accept a taxi driver that has approached you to ask if you need a taxi. This is most common at airports, bus stations and train stations. A legit taxi does not need to pick-up clients!

  1. An advice that I think is not written here is the number of Radio taxis. I often use the mytaxi app.
