Only a 40 minute boat ride from Venice, the small island of Burano is nothing less than eye-catching. With vivid colors everywhere you look, it’s hard not to take a million photos of the gorgeous sight. Although there is no way to verify whether or not this is true, it is said that the tradition of brightly colored homes stemmed from the island’s origins as a fishing village. Legend says that when the fishermen returned from sea, the fog was so thick that they could not distinguish the other houses from their own. Because of this, they began painting their houses vibrant colors so they could tell them apart in the dark and the fog. Regardless of why the houses are brightly colored, no one can deny that they make for an amazing sight.
