Everyone knows that Italy is notorious for the game of soccer, or as the Europeans call it “futbol.” There are so many different stadiums in Italy, this makes it complicated to decide which ones hold the most significance. There are five main stadiums that are a must see when visiting Italy. I know you might not have the time to go see all five but make sure you take the time out of your trip to at least visit one of these major stadium, especially if there is a game going on. The top five major stadiums are Stadio Olimpico located in Rome, San Siro located in Milan, Juventus Stadium located in Turin, Stadio San Paolo located in Naples and Stadio Artemio Franchi located in Florence. You might be wondering out of the 60+ stadiums in Italy why are these five the most significant.

1 STADIO OLIMPICO | ROME 

Let’s first talk about Stadio Olimpico which is probably the most visited stadium and home of one of the most well known rivals in Italy. Lazio and Roma are two of the biggest clubs in  Italy; Lazio vs Roma is not only one of the biggest rivalries it is also the biggest soccer event hosted in Italy. This game is one of the top rated games to go see if in Italy during that time, it is an experience of a lifetime. This stadium was also where the 1990 world cup and several European cup finals were hosted. The Italian national rugby union team also plays on the stadium and it’s also Italy’s national athletics stadium.

2 SAN SIRO STADIUM | MILAN 

Next on the list is San Siro stadium, this is the 9th Largest stadium in Europe and seats 80,000+ people. It is one of the main attractions in Milan. If you want to experience San Siro in full effect you have to go there during their major Derby match. They have a major event known as the Milan Derby which is a match up between two major Italian teams A.C Milan vs Inter Milan.

3 JUVENTUS STADIUM | TURIN

Another great stadium to visit is the Juventus Stadium also known as Allianz Stadium. There is a famous Juventus museum where you can learn about the history of the club and the stadium before going to a game or visiting the field. The best time to go to a game is when Juventus plays against Roma, this game is known for selling out so get your tickets early.

4 STADIO SAN PAOLO | NAPLES

Stadio San Paolo is usually remembered as the stadium where the summer Olympics were held in 1960. This used to be the largest stadium in Italy hosted 100,000 fans, now it only host 60,000 and is the third largest stadium in Italy. This stadium is famously known for fans setting off flares during matches.

5 STADIO ARTEMIO FRANCHI | FLORENCE

The last stadium in the top five major stadiums is Stadio Artemio Franchi. This stadium is a little bit different then the other previous four stadiums. It is more of a relaxed environment and usually has local passionate fans. It is located in the heart of  Florence and recommended for people to go to watch a game there if they are not into the large rowdy crowd scene.
